History
In 2001, IMAGO sponsored its first "Council of Elders" with the express purpose of exploring possibilities of how Elders can participate in restoring and renewing the Earth and the human community. The Council had been preceded by six years of presenting workshops and retreats based, in the beginning, on the Spiritual Eldering programs designed by Rabbi Zalman Schachtor-Shalomi. Subsequently, IMAGO staff members developed programs designed to encourage older adults to use their gifts for the well being of the Earth and all Earth's species; that is, to become active participants in what ecozoic theologian Thomas Berry has deemed the Great Work of moving into the next era of human history.

A new council of Earth Elders
As a post-conference offering, following the EarthSpirit Rising: A Conference on Ecology, Spirituality and Community, there will be a convening of the Council of Earth Elders on Sunday-Monday, July 10th & 11th, 2005. Special contributors will be Paula Gonzales, Joyce Quinlan, John Seed, Malidoma Some, and Jim Schenk. Coming together to utilize the Elders' collective wisdom is essential for the transformation of human-earth relations in these times of great danger & great possibility. Many questions will be posed with the overriding theme, "How can we, as Earth Elders, use our wisdom to help our culture reconnect with Earth?"

Current Projects
IMAGO now has a five-week interactive discussion course, Earth ELDERevolution, available for your groups. We will be providing opening facilitation and ongoing support during the course. Course books are available from IMAGO for a nominal fee. Follow up workshops, discussion evenings, volunteer opportunities and seasonal gatherings will be available to nurture the developing community of Wisdom-Keepers/Earth-Elders as they rewrite the future of This Planet Called Home.
